What "large print" actually changes

Ticking Large print sets three things at once: the page grows to 8.5 × 11 (the biggest KDP trim short of specialty sizes), the puzzle grid drops to 14 words instead of the usual default, and the grid size is left automatic rather than pinned — pinning it made any longer pasted word vanish from the book, which is worse than a slightly bigger grid. Measured across 240 generated puzzles from eight different word lists: fourteen words on an 8.5 × 11 page give 14–19 cells across (median 16) and letters of 18–25pt (median 22pt) — against a median of 14pt at the standard 6 × 9 trim. The exact size still depends on the word list you use; a book of short words prints bigger letters than one full of long ones.
